It is an evergreen shrub of the Anacardiaceae family, typical of the flora of Mediterranean coastal regions, both in the plains and on low hills. This shrub has a dense canopy, and its flexible and strong suckers are used for the bottom of baskets and creels, and as structural reinforcement to woven reed baskets.
