The process involves the use of the following tools:
- an iron or bone awl, a T-shaped tool with a wooden handle and a steel or metal needle. The needle, with a maximum thickness of 2mm and length of up to 10mm is used to make the holes through which the weft fibers are passed;
- a small pair of scissors with a blade about 2 cm long, used to trim the warp fibers and excess fabric scraps;
- a sharp knife used to cut away excess fibers or the bark from the medullary part of the plant;
- a container and/or basin to hold the water used to moisten the plant fibers during the working process;
- pieces of wet cloth used to moisten dwarf palm leaves and raffia.
