The art of weaving, spread throughout the world, has distinctive features in the Mediterranean area. Each community has adapted the technique of weaving according to habits and daily needs, depending on the availability of materials.
Since ancient times, a rich and varied range of plant materials have been used for weaving works. Hemp (Cannabis sativa), flax (Linum usitatissumum), cotton (Gossypium) and weaver’s broom (Spartium junceum).
The weaving tradition of Castelsardo is preserved in the knowledge and talent of the town’s basket-makers and weavers. These, however, owe their reputation to Eugenio Tavolara.
Castelsardo preserves a large range of colours, from the most typical and traditional to those acquired from and transmitted by Architect Tavolara.
